Report on the two days of protests in the streets of Hamburg during the G20 summit, 2017. Published in Die Zeit. The G20 summit in Hamburg on July 7 and 8, 2017, was the twelfth meeting of the Group of Twenty (G20) leading industrialized and emerging economies. In addition to their heads of state and government, politicians from other countries and representatives of international economic and trade organizations participated.
Around 31,000 police officers were deployed to protect the summit and the city. Tens of thousands expressed their protest against the summit through demonstrations, blockades, and other registered events. Hundreds of people were injured in clashes and police brutality.
